Midcoast’s engineering department provides a special level of service to our customers. No two jobs are ever the same and many projects require significant design, analysis and testing efforts to obtain Supplemental Type Certificates or STCs. This is where our engineering team really shines. They have the experience and technical knowledge required to put together complex and individualized systems that satisfy the specific needs of our customers.

Whether you’re adding standard equipment or a custom package, all the engineering drawings and data related to your workscope have to be approved by the Federal Aviation Administration to ensure all federal regulations have been met.

Midcoast’s Designated Engineering Representatives are qualified by the FAA and have sign-off authority. Obtaining this special authority is a lengthy process requiring adherence to strict educational, recurrent training and experience guidelines. Plus, a want-to-be Designated Engineering Representative must work directly with a member of the Federal Aviation Administration for several years until he or she has attained the knowledge needed to review projects in total and ascertain if all government standards and regulations have been satisfied.

As a Designated Alteration Station, Midcoast is authorized to issue Supplemental Type Certificates, issue Special Airworthiness Certificates for aircraft that are altered under an STC and require flight tests, and amend standard airworthiness certificates for such aircraft. Designated Alteration Station authorizations are intended to delegate FAA functions to the organization, and to reduce the workload on the FAA, thus improving the efficiency of the STC process.

Midcoast can issue STCs in areas in which it has demonstrated experience and expertise, including structural modifications, systems installations, avionics installations and interior configurations for all types of aircraft specified in the company’s FAA Class IV repair station certificate R03R822L.
